What is a Biweekly Time Card Calculator?

A biweekly time card calculator helps employees and employers track work hours across two consecutive weeks — the most common pay period in the United States. Instead of calculating each week separately, a biweekly calculator combines both weeks into a single payroll summary, making it easy to see total hours, overtime and estimated gross pay.

Who Gets Paid Biweekly?

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, biweekly payroll is the most popular pay schedule, used by around 43% of private employers. Hourly workers, salaried employees, healthcare professionals, government workers and many retail workers receive biweekly paychecks. Freelancers billing on a two-week cycle also benefit from biweekly time tracking.

How to Calculate Biweekly Hours

To calculate biweekly hours, simply add the total hours from Week 1 and Week 2 together. Record your start time, end time and break duration for each day of both weeks. Subtract unpaid lunch breaks and any additional unpaid breaks from each day's total. Sum all daily totals to get your biweekly hours worked. Multiply by your hourly rate to estimate gross pay.

Biweekly Overtime Rules

Under US federal law (FLSA), overtime is calculated on a weekly basis — not biweekly. This means overtime kicks in after 40 hours in each individual week, not after 80 hours across two weeks. Some states have different rules. Always check your state's labor laws and consult your employer's policy for accurate overtime guidance.

Biweekly vs Semi-Monthly Pay

Biweekly pay means you receive 26 paychecks per year, while semi-monthly pay (twice a month) gives you 24 paychecks. Biweekly payroll is generally easier for hourly workers because each pay period covers exactly two 7-day work weeks, making overtime calculations straightforward.
